Douglasie smooth planed beam

This profile is planed on 4 sides. The longitudinal sides are slightly rounded to prevent splintering at the sharp corners.

• Rule of thumb: For cantilever span, maintain approximately 5 cm thickness per meter span. This rule also suggests that a beam of 50x150mm can span freely up to 300cm in the longitudinal direction, but in the transverse direction, it should be fixed every 100cm to prevent wood deformation. A structural engineer can provide further assistance with this.

Humidity

The Douglasie labeled as AD (Air Dried) has been freshly sawn and is stacked in a semi-open storage space. As the Douglasie remains in storage for a longer duration, the wood becomes drier. The drying process occurs from the outer side toward the core. Due to this drying process, the wood contracts, resulting in characteristic drying cracks. It is typical for the Douglasie to shrink when applied in a 'dry' state. Particularly with smaller dimensions at the ends, there is also a higher likelihood of deformation. AD Douglasie is not suitable for gluing or applications that require permanent dimensional stability.

S/F Sortering

Dit product is S/F gesorteerd. Dit betekent een zaag vallende sortering waarbij de laagste klasse (sexta) uit gesorteerd is. Deze sortering is de meest gebruikelijke voor Europees naaldhout.

• Bij schaafwerk behoudt de productie zich het recht voor om maximaal 3-4% van de kopmaat af te wijken, om een mooi, recht en maatvast product te kunnen schaven. De planken worden gesorteerd op één zichtzijde; de achterzijde kan Hit&Mis, schaaffoutjes en/of walsafdrukken bevatten.
• Wij leveren het hout op handelslengte. Dat betekent: niet haaks gezaagd en niet op lengte afgekort, vaak met wat overlengte.
• Aan de kopse kanten kunnen droogtescheurtjes voorkomen. Houd bij het berekenen van de lengte altijd rekening met minimaal 10 cm zaagverlies extra.
• Een correcte montage is van groot belang. Goede ventilatie, voldoende regelwerk en de juiste bevestiging zijn daarbij vereist. Bij elk product is een montagehandleiding in pdf-formaat beschikbaar.

Externe invloeden, zoals transport, opslag, weersomstandigheden en houtbewerking, kunnen de kenmerkende spanningen/ defecten in het hout blootleggen. Gezien de sortering en de externe invloeden adviseren we om 10% extra te bestellen. Bestel bij minder dan 10 stuks ten minste 1 stuk extra.

Douglas is a type of wood that is ideal for garden fencing or roofs and as wall cladding for a home or roof. The wood is naturally very strong and is therefore sold untreated. In contrast to impregnated spruce, Douglas is not treated, but it falls into the same durability class. This type of wood is therefore also seen as a more environmentally friendly alternative to garden wood.

The wood has a yellow to pink color and has broad annual rings of 5 to 10 millimeters. The small, scattered resin channels are barely visible in the fine-growing material and contain resin. This gives the fresh wood its characteristic scent.
